Immersive Theatre

I have a keen interest in non-traditional, site specific theatre, and have been working in the NYC independent immersive scene for the past several years as performer, rehearsal director, and sound designer.

2023 - The Tiger’s Bride & Other Stories

Under the direction of Suzanne Karpinski, I’ll be developing the role of Bluebeard for this exciting immersive concept. Blending live music, one-on-one interactive performance, and circus arts, The Tiger’s Bride will run a closed alpha test in April. Based on feedback, the show will be workshopped further ahead of a four week residency at The Cell Theatre in October.

2023 - The Orchard

This one-time event by ‘alternative mystical community’ Temple of the Stranger saw 100 audience descend into a holy orchard to explore themes of heresy and death. I played the Angel Gabriel in this performance, leading groups of attendants through a ritualized meditation for the holiday of Tu Bi’Shvat.

I also built a live audio system for the band and speakers, including a three-channel silent disco experience.

2021-2022 - Bottom of the Ocean

From October 2021 until its close in December 2022, I was a swing performer and rehearsal director for Houseworld Immersive’sBottom of the Ocean’. The show gained an enthusiastic cult following, and was named NY Times ‘Critic’s Pick’.

Conceived by veteran guerilla immersive creator Andrew Hoepfner, BOTO welcomed five audience members per performance, guiding them through a series of rituals designed to encourage self-reflection, and ponderance on mortality.

I also built a dynamic sound system for the show. Using custom-built Arduino midi controllers, wireless MIDI transmitters and Ableton Live, I created a way for actors in the show to trigger preset sound effects and cues during scenes to heighten their performance

2019 - Waves at Gymnopedie

Before COVID19 put a temporary halt to in-person performance, I joined immersive creator Andrew Hoepfner for a series of sound baths at his Brooklyn venue, Gymnopedie.

2019 - The Party at Beekman Place

For one night only, the ghosts of Beekman Place hosted a mysterious party for a small group of intrepid adventures who found their invitation in one of 9 geocaches hidden around NYC. This popup event merged storytelling, musical theatre, and cocktail-making into an intimate, spellbinding, one-of-a-kind celebration. Will you gaze into the broken mirror?

2018 - Phantom of the Paradise LIVE

I played Philbin in Unattended Baggage’s immersive concert version of the 1974 cult classic Phantom of the Paradise. This intimate reimagining took the bones of the original movie, and expanded on some of its themes for a 21st century audience. The newly conceived immersive nature of the show allowed actors and audience to interact in novel ways, and was extended twice past its original sellout run.
